Sheet Vinyl

  1. Preventative Care

    1. Use large, hard, plastic casters between your floor and the legs of furniture or appliances.
    2. When moving furniture/appliances, lay a sheet of plywood down and “walk” the unit across it to avoid tears.
    3. Use window coverings to protect the floor from UV rays.
    4. Use walk-off mats outside exterior doors.
    5. Interior mats should have a non-staining vinyl back (not rubber) or be colorfast woven rugs.
  2. Routine Care

    1. Do
      1. At least once a week, dust mop or vacuum (without a beater bar) the floor. Increase the frequency in higher traffic areas. This helps to keep the floor free of debris which may scratch the surface.
      2. Soak up spills immediately so they do not set.
      3. Once a month, mop the floor with warm water. If the water alone is not sufficient, add 1oz. of ammonia to one gallon of water and mop with that prior to rinsing with plain water. Dry the floor.
    2. Don’t
      1. Do not use detergents, abrasive cleaners, or “mop and shine” products on your vinyl floor. These will leave a dull film on the surface.
      2. Do not use highly abrasive scrubbing tools, paste wax, bleach, or other solvent based polishes.
      3. Do not use steam cleaners on sheet vinyl. The steam can reactivate the adhesive and cause bubbles. Damage can also occur if the cleaner is left in one place too long in the on position.
